Best Restaurants Open for Newyears Eve this year in Ottawa – 2024

My husband and I were recommended this restaurant by a friend. We were especially interested in this restaurant due to the indigenous cooking style and ingredients used in the dishes by the chefs. I had the wild rice salad and he had the venison. Both were delicious, but what truly made the night for us was the service! Our server Justin went above and beyond for us, and so did the hostess. Truly impressed!

My favourite restaurant. We have been going here for years to celebrate whatever! This time it was for my birthday and I got a delicious dessert on the house (delighted but not unexpected as we've celebrated there before). The food was excellent (smoked gem lettuce followed by grilled bavette steak). Thank you, 1 Elgin. It was a wonderful dinner with my family! Highly recommend!

Visiting Ottawa for the first time, we were looking for a special place to have dinner. We noticed many comments around the 1Elgin and decided to try it. Menu is small but has good options. Our hopes were high for the concept and taste of our dishes (duck and pickerel). Unfortunately even charging 35-45 dollars each, the construction of the dish was basic. It tasted good but it was not impressive. My cocktail was unbalanced and presentation was rough. Service was basic throughout our time there. Few and only essential interactions. When we paid our bill, the lady organizing the “patio” area left with the machine and returned after a couple steps because she noticed we didn’t leave a tip and asked us if something was wrong. Then she lectured us TWICE on how is standard to leave a tip in Canada! So, now she has her answer, service and food were not impressive, service was lacking the refinement an establishment like this should have. Unfortunately, the experience makes it difficult to recommend this place. Unless you are looking for someone ruining your special night…don’t go there without a tip

At first,the service was great with each guy.The staff was attentive,friendly, and clearly well-trained. They made us feel comfortable. Then is the food.That’s pretty good for each dishes. I think they may pays careful attention to the order of serving dishes, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Their lamb is tender and juicy, and the salmon is delicious as well. I think I’ll bring my friends come here next time!

We just happened to find this place on a Sunday evening because it was near our Airbnb and it was drizzling rain so we wanted something close by. What a wonderfully fortunate find! The dishes we tried were all fantastic! We especially enjoyed the orzo shrimp and gorgonzola gnocchi! We are from out of town, but will definitely recommend to family in the Ottawa area!

Nice restaurant that serves Mediterranean dishes. Service is exceptional, waiters are attentive, friendly and fast. I had a meal of 6 dishes and although it was my first time trying most of the dishes, I enjoyed them. The only thing was that the restaurant was crowded and thus noisy so I had to strain to hear my companions. I guess every restaurant wants to be full so this is not a complaint . I just wished it was a bit more quiet

Lovely venue. Great service. Very good selection of drinks. Starters fantastic (Arachini and spicy roll). For mains, duck leg was amazing. However, the ‘Mati Burger’ is honestly a glorified McDonald’s burger. thin beef patty, with a Big Mac type sauce - considering the price, that should be taken off the menu.

When you go to Mati not only do you pay for quality food but you also pay for a quality atmosphere. We got the pre-ordered menu in the private rooms and the ambiance was incredible. The food was amazing. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked and everything right down to each specially made potato was so good. I tried a lot of seafood for the first time and loved it all. The clams were amazing too. They also have a wonderful bar with tons of quality. The desert was really good too. You can tell they put perfection into every aspect of their dish even the veggies were made to perfection. This is a great place for a fancy celebration. It is really expensive but you pay for premium food and service.

MUST VISIT! Our server Jazz was incredible, so kind and attentive. The cocktails and atmosphere was top notch. And our selection of menu items were AMAZING! We had the surf and turf board which was cooked to perfection and SO worth the price. We also ordered the sour dough bread with the best truffle honey butter, highly recommend. And the spicy tuna roll… tasted like something from Nobu! And the spicy rigatoni, which was creamy, spicy and the addition of feta cheese was unique but complimented the flavours perfectly. As someone who works in hospitality for over 15 years I would recommend this spot over and over again. Now bring Mati to Toronto please!!

Daniel was our waiter and he was super attentive! He answered all our questions and gave us his opinions, checked in on us, and made sure we were happy with our meals. he even let us know of cocktails that weren’t on the menu. The food was also excellent!

The food, as always, was very good. We ordered filet mignon, fries, shrimp cocktail, green salad and Mac and cheese. All good. We had never tried the MAC AND CHEESE before it is really good. …

Beef tartare, Thai lobster bisque, Iberian pork and steelhead trout for dinner celebrating our anniversary. The food was fantastic! We also tried their mocktails. Yum!

The oysters were super fresh, best I've ever had, the side sauces complemented it well. The tuna tataki was not what I expected, but was pretty good. Also had the aged ribeye for two, it was much too rich and salty for my taste (the foie butter wasn't necessary imo with the amount of marbling on the steak) but it was a well cooked steak. Drinks were tasty and unique.

Like the atmosphere, service here but the food is not good at all. Since they have menu changes everyday, so I heard mix review for the restaurant. But the night I went there, we all got stomachache and have to went to washroom all the night after we got home. Pasta, pork, beef tartare tasted ok. Aged steak was terrible, I tried aged steak before but I dont feel it the same. We not sure which item caused us stomachache but in general, I would not return to this place (at least for the menu that night). We pay totally $250+ not included tip for 4 and we were not even full, have to went to another restaurant for another meal.

We are from Toronto and really enjoy the food there. The Food is good. Staffs are friendly and nice welcomed. And easy to find parking on the street. And for sure, I’ll go there again whenever I go to Ottawa. This time we don’t have much time to sit longer as we have to go to work. But hope next time we will.

A little over rated. Got the burger which was fine. Nothing too out of the ordinary. The plus is the cream cheese on the burger which is refreshing and I really enjoyed the fries. They work on orders when they sit down so if you are in a hurry don’t bother.

I had a great experience here. The salmon was perfectly cooked. It was smooth and so so fresh. They were also able to make changes based on allergy restrictions. The pasta was great! Highly recommend this place. The atmosphere was super cozy.

As usual, the food and service is always top notch! It had been a long time since our last visit and it did not disappoint. The small plates menu allows you to share with others while being able to taste their various offerings.

Lovely, cozy, professional restaurant. Tapas are plentiful with flavour. Wine selection is great. The salmon is a highlight!

Had dinner with a group of six other people. We were seated upstairs, which was a nice cozy spot. Left a menu, especially with the suggestion wine pairings for the various dishes. We each ordered two dishes and shared each other's food. My own orders were the scalloped crudo and the steak. I highly recommend both. It was recently filling with ordering just two dishes per person. We did not have dessert.

I love Town. It has the right vibes for a Friday night & the food is absolutely delicious, everything on the menu is worth trying. Their wine list is great, hard to pick a bottle though, always great to get a recommendation.

Lovely space in the golden triangle. Menu was really interesting and is seasonal i think. There is no a/c , but there was plenty of fans and a bit of a breeze going, the cold beer and glass of chilled white wine really helped. Service was lovely.

Great place, super chic and tasty, well prepared dishes. I don't recommend the salads. Get the bread. The main dishes were superb and handled with care. They also have a wide variety of niche beers and wines. Gnocchi was really good. So were the meatballs.

I’ve been to Gitanes many times now and it’s always wonderful! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere are always top notch. Gitanes is always a favourite and top choice in Ottawa as it’s among the best in the city. My husband and I had our intimate wedding dinner in the back room and Amanda and the whole team, exceeded all expectations and delivered the most perfect and special dinner. Amanda was so amazing to work with throughout and really offered and provided a personalized and unique dinner. An exceptional treat to the palate! We shared several starters and a main for a blend of surf and turf – absolutely fine. The guest beer selection was a refreshing guava sour and the grenache from France paired well with our dishes. We started with the tuna crudo and razor clams, followed by the crab spaghetti and steak frites. Each dish burst with flavour and texture; the entire experience was satisfying. Thank you for a delightful anniversary dinner!

Exceptional food & service in a unique atmosphere while celebrating as newlyweds on our special night...we were treated like royalty. An evening of memories we will cherish always! We highly recommend this restaurant for your next dining-out adventure.

Amazing birthday experience! The service was top tier, the courses came quickly and complemented each other. We had great value for the price as well for the tasting menu, and an extra dessert course. This place is amazing for special occasions!

The food was good. The butter that comes with the bread is excellent- probably the best thing we had. The accoutrements for the oysters were good too. However, we had to wait for a very long time for our mains to arrive. If our server had checked in on us from time to time to explain what was going on in the kitchen, it would have been forgivable. I would also understand if it was a very busy night, but there were a lot of empty tables around us. Our server also looked away from us multiple times and tried not to catch our eyes before the mains came. Weird experience. But good food. Would I go again? For the amount of money I spent, no. Not worth the abysmal service.

Came here for an anniversary dinner - our waiter Adam was phenomenal and kind. Thank you Adam! We never had to wait for water as our glasses were always topped up. The food was delicious and while our steak might have been undercooked they did make it right and were incredibly polite. I’d 100% come back here. The atmosphere was also very classy yet cozy. Had a great time, would recommend
