Best Restaurants Open for Newyears Eve this year in Nelson – 2024

Excellent experience. It's situated on a hill and feels like a cozy little den when you go inside. I sat at the bar as I was by myself and my other option was on the patio. Ordered the elk striploin steak salad. It came quickly and was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly. Salad was flavorful and balanced. Above all, the bartender Zoe made my visit here very special. She was attentive, friendly, gave great cocktail recommendations, and was genuinely good company. Would recommend going, and would definitely go back if in Nelson again!

A tiny-tiny restaurants with a HUUUGE and Looong ‘attitude’. First, we were assigned a table in between two other tables literally 30 cm elbow to elbow despite all the other tables were empty any NOT reserved. It was quiet Sunday 5 pm. I asked twice “no ice please “, sure enough they brought glasses filled with ice to the top. Food wasn’t that great either— simply tasteless.

Went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning in September. I had the breakfast poutine and the wife had one of the many benedicts on offer. Both outstanding! Very cool spot on a hill, staff very friendly, in a restored brick building. Excited to go ba k and try the dinner menu!

A wonderful Indian (Tamil) restaurant with exceptional flavors. We ordered the veg tahli with 4 curries and they were all excellent. It came with rice, rialti and several breads. We couldn’t stop eating it. We also ordered the shrimp and okra dish in a tamarind sauce that had a lot of shrimp and was also excellent. We also ordered extra bread to sop up the great sauces. It took a bit of time but was sooo good with the sauces!! We had cycled from gray creek and were very hungry but ended our day sooo happy!!

We were in Nelson for a family trip and decided to try this place since it had Kottu which is a Sri Lankan dish. We were delighted the lamb kottu we got had all the flavors we needed and was very filling. They have a bar with decent drink menu as well. Good clean atmosphere with friendly staff.

Lovely gem. My spouse and I first visited Sage on our honeymoon. Now every time we are through Nelson, we are sure to stop at Sage for a romantic dinner. Best if you have time for a leisurely dinner with time to order share plates every so often while enjoying beverages and great company. If you aren't a wine drinker, you might be interested in their house made sodas. The patio has lovely views.

We had the best time here. Place is such a vibe. The waitress was just fantastic. She gave us some good recommendations for the rest of our trip. The wine tasting was just lovely. 10000/10. Y’all do it right.

Amazing food / service & atmosphere. Super cozy on a chilly day. Tried their sockeye salmon burger with a side of broth and I was blown away ! Best burger I’ve ever had. 10/10 recommend stopping in :)

The atmosphere and the service are two best things about this place. The food, however, is the exact opposite. Also, we wrote this review as someone who tried a lot of vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver, so that's what we're comparing it to. We ordered lemongrass chicken bahn mi, chicken pho, and yellow curry. The bahn mi was fine but definitely not worth the 20 dollars spent. I couldn't taste any lemongrass from the chicken at all. The sauce tastes like mayo and nothing else. The best part of the dish was probably the side fries I got. The pho broth tasted like it was watered down and desperately needs more flavour in it (we did put in the extra seasoning and sauce in it btw) The yellow curry is the worst because why is it slimy??? Something we would be able to overlook if it actually tasted good, but it's also not? (Please change the recipe) The only good thing about it was the chili sauce they gave with the plate. Maybe their cocktails are better cause a lot of people were ordering it. We're disappointed, and I just don't think we will ever come back here again.

We are regular customers at the restaurant and have always enjoyed excellent service during our morning visits. However, our experience yesterday at 5 PM with our 3.5-year-old daughter and 13-month-old baby was disappointing. It was the first time we felt truly uncomfortable in this establishment. The staff appeared rude and unaccommodating. When my daughter accidentally dropped her glass of water, the waitress wiped it up half-heartedly, leaving the floor wet. We ended up cleaning it ourselves, and no one offered to replace the glass. On several occasions, we were told to move our baby away, which made us feel unwelcome. We had only intended to apologize for any misunderstanding. It seemed clear that the staff may not have a fondness for young children. Given this treatment, we are unlikely to return anytime soon, despite our previous weekly visits. However, the food was as delicious as always.

Tacos were pretty good for Nelson. I get why the place is busy, they have their own twist on authentic dishes. Only small complaint we had was the music was way too loud and we were on the patio. Expect to pay a premium for your experience but you'll likely be back for whatever reason. They just got it right with "if you build it, they will come".

A great place to eat, especially with kids. Their guacamole is great and so are the chips that come with the Guacamole & Chips. The kids Nachos are yummy and super large making sharing probably a good idea. The Al Pastor Taco was good but the Argentine Taco was better. Personally the Pescado Taco was my least favorite of the three I tried. Prices are very reasonable making Cantina Del Centro a great place to eat in Nelson.

Two locals said this was the best place for a bite in Nelson - and they were right! Enjoyed the brunch menu. Very flavorful! Prompt and kind service :)

Recently visited the Black Cauldron. The flavour in the food was good, however, we found the prices to be quite high for what you received. We had gone off a photo of the flatbread pizza we seen on Google reviews, which is why we ordered that, however, were disappointed when it arrived to see how much smaller it is now. I think the menu said it can be shared between up to 4 people, but I would only say that if you're okay with 1 big slice or 2 small pieces. The shrimp dip was tasty, but was in a very small dish and again, pricey for what you received.

Black Cauldron is a must-visit for cocktail lovers! The drinks are expertly crafted, with unique and flavorful combinations that are both visually stunning and delicious. The most unique bar/lounge/ restaurant I've ever been in. Traveling across the country, this hidden gem ( back alley) is worth the search for. Great service. Be amazed by the magic of the drink menu...literally. 10/10

This pizza place is like a slice of heaven on Earth. The pizza bar is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. The toppings are fresh, the crust is crispy, and the sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. And the upscale ambiance is just the cherry on top. It's like dining in a gourmet pizza parlor. Just be warned: you might never want to eat regular pizza again.

A fantastic Italian restaurant with amazing food, atmosphere and friendly staff! The interior is decorated tastefully with tons of seating options, plus bar, and there's also outdoor seating for you to enjoy if the sun is out. We sat inside by the windows, and started off with some beers and warm marinated olives and polenta fries. They were both fantastic with great presentation. Then we got the lunch combos which includes a small personal pizza with a side. We got the spicy salami (my personal favourite), margherita, the fungi, and the mushroom sandwich. They were all very filling and tasty and wouldn't have any problem recommending any of the menu options. If you're ever in the city of Nelson, this is the one restaurant that you must try!

The Kids Spaghetti & Meatballs were probably my favourite item I had here. Personally the pizza crust was good but the pepperoni on the Pepperoni pizza disappointed. The Beef Stripline was very salty which I'm usually a fan of extra salt but in this case it was too much for even me. I did like the potato squares that came with it and the mushroom side was good but had a very strong vinegary flavour which grew on you the more you ate but I think when combined with the salt in my main wore me out. The hostess was really great and our server was good. Their cocktails were super strong, which is good and bad depending.

The food was really good. I enjoyed the Mushroom Deluxe Burger, mushrooms were really large which was a first but they tasted great and it was easy to eat the ones that fell out. The Diner salad was good but so were the fries. Definitely get patio seating which was nice as the inside was a bit musty smelling. The bathrooms were very clean and spacious.

This little gem had BEST fish n chips today. Cod and the Halibut IN SEASON & best in town. LOVE THE PLACE & people running it!

The burger month burger is awesome. Probably a contender. This restaurant is a dependable Nelson classic. Came back today and had an amazing spicy halibut wrap, excellent fish and fantastic chips. Greek salad was excellent and the tartar sauce was obviously in his made and really nice. The service was above par all the way too!

Most important, pup friendly patio. It was a gorgeous 18 degrees outside. Sun was out and the pups were people watching. The building itself was gorgeous. The patio out front was a good size. The service was attentive and efficient albeit it was slow during our visit. We had the local (?) Angry Hen and a Phillips craft beer. Both hit the spot on a hot day. For food we ordered the Smash Burger and the Dirty Bird. Both were delicious although I didn’t really like the sweetness in the sauce for my Smash Burger. My wife really enjoyed the Dirty Bird. The chicken was moist and tender and the sauce was really well balanced. If you’re visiting for the first time just be careful when going to the bathroom. I was staring at the t shirts when I turned the corner to thinking it was a hallway. It’s stairs going down. Well worth a second visit.

Awesome experience and customer service! We sat at the bar and ordered the shared platter for 2 with chicken and ribs. The brisket tacos were Killer too! Cam was our bartender and crushed it! Awesome recommendations on the sauces and stellar old fashioned. Highly recommend!

Tennessee Hot Chicken & Waffles were AWESOME !! Smoked Beef cheeks were really good. Had some great whiskey drinks and a corn bread cake & ice creams. Very tasty

We were staying overnight in Nelson and decided to come here for dinner. Our server was a young lady Jesse, who was very polite and friendly. We ordered drinks with our meal. My husband had the steak sandwich rare with a side order of salad. It came perfectly cooked and delicious. I ordered the classic burger with fries and gravy. It also was cooked perfectly and the fries were crispy and not greasy. For dessert we shared the blueberry cobbler warmed with ice cream. The whole meal was great. The atmosphere was very pleasant.

Lovely place - great food, great service, great drinks options. The teriyaki sauce specifically was really good. The strawberry rhubarb dessert was amazing!

I will definitely return to this restaurant! I arrived earlier than my other guest, which allowed me to get a feel for the place, and I loved it. The host was courteous and pleasant. My waitress, I believe her name was Jess, was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable about the menu, and even gave good suggestions. I requested a refill for my drinks, and it wasn't a negative response. I ordered the chicken bacon linguini! Amazing! I enjoyed it from the first to the last bite. Thank you!!!!!

I’ve wanted to return to The Outer Clove for years; having a chocolate chip garlic cookie was a memory I wanted to repeat! And this restaurant does not disappoint! We only had a short time to visit, and our server was excellent; food was fresh but also timely for the time we had! Very flavourful, and I thought that, since garlic is basically the name, that there was a terrific balance to their culinary creations! Friendly, tasty, cozy, great patio but also great windows at the indoor seating… The Outer Clove definitely is a must-eat-here in Nelson!

I recently visited Outer Clove and could see that the restaurant was understaffed. However, the server gave us a fair warning before we entered, which I appreciated. I was hesitant because I thought the service might suffer as the restaurant filled up quickly shortly after we settled in at our table. Despite the challenges, the server handled everything excellently and the assistant helping was very kind. I was very impressed with both the food and the entire experience. Definitely looking forward to coming back the next time I’m in town. Great food, guys! Hopefully there’s more than just one server next time!

I think this was my favourite visit in Nelson. The place was chill, the service was great, and the food was amazing. As well, you can't fault a place that has Bob Dylan on their playlist. I had the schnitzel and it was perfection. Edit - Google says I'm a local guide but I'm not. I was visiting from Vancouver as a tourist.

I’ve only been here once but it was a good experience. The drinks were really great and the chicken was amazing!! There was no one inside which made perfect sense because the patio had a great atmosphere and it was a beautiful summer night. However I could see enjoying being inside as well, the building is old and has character. The service was a little bit slow (but friendly!) but honestly I feel like this has become more and more common everywhere, most places are understaffed these days. I will definitely return!

I had the Chicken Parmesan (huge portions!), it was quite tasty. The fries were quite salty though. Service was decent and the price was reasonable. My partner had the fried chicken and it was close to over done. Overall it was a good meal and I would go back again

I had heard about the fried chicken from a few folks, so I gave it a go. It was a bit overcooked, not burned but close. The fries were so salty I was questioning whether I annoyed the waitress or something. Couldn't be served that salty on purpose. My better half had the chicken Parmesam. It was tasty, but her fries would cure to meat as well. Will try again some day but not impressed.

I stayed at a hotel and dined at their exceptional Restaurant. The atmosphere is really good—clean, spacious, and with a vast selection of drinks. Starting with a creamy and delicious prawn dish, followed by delightful pasta and a great-tasting lobster tail, although the portions on the lobster were a bit small. Justine, our server, was incredibly friendly. The service was impressively fast. I definitely plan on returning.

Haven't had food this good in months maybe even years down in the states. Have had problems with cheap and expensive restaurants every time I dine out. Here two nights in a row were perfect and went above our expectations. 3 meals both nights, perfect quality, steak was done to our request, amazing taste, one of the best steaks I've ever had. Mashed potatoes, even though it's a simple dish, were amazing, also some of the best I've ever had easily topping all other places. Servers and who I suspect to be a manager or maybe even the owner were awesome, very friendly, didn't miss a single thing at all both nights. I'm not usually up for talking while eating, but both nights we had great conversations. Overall everything was amazing, not a single complaint, props to the small town steakhouse! Was not expecting such amazing service and food when we can't even get a decent meal in our big city!

Dined solo at the bar, service as friendly as can be, rib eye cooked to perfection, mouthwatering delicious, and the chocolate mousse was a delightful dessert. The Tawny port flight was AMAZING, thanks Jackie! My favorite was the 40 yr. Fueled and ready to shred

Very cool historic restaurant in downtown Nelson. The breakfast was great all around. I had steak and eggs which was excellent. Fast and friendly service in a beautifully maintained setting.

Over the years we have gone to the General Store Restaurant in the Hume Hotel many times. Clean, super friendly staff and great food is the best way to describe it. I thoroughly enjoy the historical aspect of the building and how well its been preserved. Best part of my meal was the crème brûlée. Stop in check it out for yourself.

Came here for lunch and we really enjoyed it! We got the daily special and the Reuben, which were both delicious. To finish the meal off we got the lemon meringue pie and it was SO YUMMY! Service was quick and friendly. We also really enjoyed the decor inside. Remember to read the history of the building on the back of the menu. Thanks Daira!

This place is amazing, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is absolutely delicious! So many options for vegans, although I know omnivores will enjoy this food just as much!!! Highly recommend checking this place out! They are very community minded as well.

Absolutely love this place! We have needed a healthy quick place to eat out or takeaway for a long time. The food is excellent and the owner just a lovely person! I would only make 2 recommendations (not criticizing just suggestions) to maybe add a soup (although the one they have is FANTASTIC) and more drink options. Other than that I could eat here every day! I really appreciate, in the days of gouging, that the prices for quality food are fair!

As a long time Kootenay resident I can say this is one of the best restaurants to grab a healthy, nourishing and delicious meal. I am continually impressed with the food here. I just had my first veggie burger and it was the best one I have eaten in years. Great place for a staff lunch or meeting place in the summer where you can sit on the patio.
