Beck's Bar and Grill - South Boston

I went out to eat in my hometown with family. I was told Beck’s was a good place to grab food. It is a nice sized place for a bar & grill located in a small strip mall. The bartenders were nice. I’m not really a beet drinker. They had Bud Light and Stella on tap. I followed my uncle’s lead and ordered a Stella. The menu was not overwhelming. It offered a good variety of foods. They had unique appetizers for a small town. Cheese Curds, Fried Pickle Spears, and Catfish Bites stood out. We ordered an order of Cheese Curds and an order of Catfish Bites. They were hot and very good. The curds taste like mozzarella sticks but smaller and with less of a cheese pull. The catfish was lightly breaded, hot, and tasted fresh. I contemplated between the Southern Balogna Burger and the Classic Hot Dogs. I have no idea why I went with the 1/3 pound Becks Burger. I’ll put it down to being tired from the 12-hour drive over the Thanksgiving holiday. I ordered the burger medium rare with fries. The fried were fresh, and I enjoyed them. The burger is best described as cremated. The medium rare Burger was the victim of a Viking funeral! It was blacker than night! There’s char, and then there’s coals! I was disappointed in this “the best Burger in town”. You know it’s bad when I regretted not ordering the Southern Balogna Burger. The beer was good. The appetizers were delicious. My uncle and cousin enjoyed the wings. I wouldn’t send their burger to starving hostages. I most likely could’ve sent it back and got a better burger, but I enjoyed spending time with my family, laughing and joking with the friendly staff. I overall enjoyed the experience. I’ll go back.
