Gus’ Famous Fried Chicken (Downtown Mesa) I recently tried Gus’ Famous Fried Chicken in downtown Mesa and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The chicken was **nicely cooked** and had **just a bit of spice**, but not too much. The breading was crispy with a nice crunch. I opted for the special of 4 legs and 2 sides, while my friend had the tenders which were large, but lackoing flavor. My favorite item was the fried green tomatoes, which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The potato salad and coleslaw were both sweet, although I found the mac and cheese to be a bit lacking in flavor. The service was excellent, and I appreciated the picnic theme with the checked tablecloths and disposable plates and cups. However, I’m not a fan of styrofoam, especially for food that’s meant to be consumed on-site. All of my sides came in styrofoam cups, which I find to be environmentally unfriendly. While the food was delicious, I felt that the price point was a bit high. Two lunch plates without drinks for close to fifty dollars seemed a bit steep. Overall, Gus’ Famous Fried Chicken is a great spot for delicious fried chicken. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying meal, but be prepared to pay a premium for the quality.
