Best Restaurants Open for Newyears Eve this year in Bay Bulls – 2024

First time going to this place, and it won’t be my last!! What a welcoming, warm, rustic place with exquisite food and a charming staff. I cannot stop boasting about this quaint restaurant. I really recommend it. The food is pure perfection. The bacon jam on the beef slider…you need to consider adding this burger to your menus as a meal. Chef’s Kiss!!!

We always check reviews when picking a new establishment to eat at and that’s how we ended up at Arbour adding our own 5 star review. Our family of 5 each ordered something different to try and to share and each dish was outstanding plating, flavour and quality. I also really enjoyed the drink pictured. This restaurant is a hidden in plain site gem indeed. Service was friendly too. Highly recommend.

We visited Arbour our first night in the area. Just walking in, I started to smile! Relaxing, bright, and happy was the immediate atmosphere offered. We were privileged to have the owner take care of us. One can tell she loves her establishment and her customers. We ordered the steak wonton nachos and the stuffed peppers with her award winning fries. (I didn't know they were award winning, but had to tell her how good they were, so found out!) Her specialty is mixology...and my Cosmo was perfection. This is a GREAT place!

Our dinner at La Roca Casa de Comidas was a highlight of our trip to Newfoundland. Pablo and Paula have done an incredibly job at creating a dining experience that showcases the best of what this region has to offer. Everything was cooked from scratch with love and this attention to detail came through with every dish. Dinner was served at a large shared dining room table and the intimate atmosphere this created made it easy to forget that we were eating out and not having a family dinner. We greatly enjoyed getting to know everyone else and exchanging stories about our time exploring Newfoundland. Although the menu is preset, the Inn goes above and beyond to cater to individual dietary restrictions and preferences, which we were asked about when we made our reservation. For us, the highlight of the dinner was a mackerel appetizer. Mackerel can be disappointing and overly fishy when not served extremely fresh. La Roca clearly sources its fish locally and we were impressed by how Chef Pablo cooked and presented this dish. In talking to Paula, it became clear that our hosts were very thoughtful in sourcing their ingredients. We wish more restaurants followed the example set by La Roca to focus less on variety and more on showcasing truly fresh and local food. We’ve traveled all over the world, and the dinner we had could hold its own against high end restaurants not just in Newfoundland but internationally. If your travels take you to this beautiful corner of the world, be sure to make a reservation at La Roca Casa de Comidas, you will not regret it.

La Roca Casa de Comidas is a cozy and intimate restaurant based in the Bread and Cheese Country Inn. My husband and I booked a dinner during our stay at the inn, but would highly recommend that if you're in the area to request a dinner reservation even if you aren't staying on site. The restaurant will send you a list of course options that are all seasonal and local to the area that you can select beforehand so there is an overall reduction in food waste during your stay. The food is absolutely impeccable, with a chef that combines some of his heritage with the local cuisines of Newfoundland. Everything we ate had our mouth's watering for more, and by the end we were full and happy in a beautiful, cozy space. The wine list is small but curated to Spanish and Canadian award winning wines, I would recommend trying the Borsao Garnacha if they still have it!

We loved the tasty dishes created by Chef Pablo of the Bread and Cheese Country Inn. Always a local accent but with an influence from the chef which highlights each dish that was served to us. And what about the desserts created by Paula, a real delight. All in a place that could not be more charming, welcoming and warm. An experience not to be missed. Worth the trip. We will definitely go back!!

Really disappointed in the fish and chips. From reading all the reviews online it was as if this was the place to go for a good feed of fish and chips. Perhaps it was the hype of the reviews that drew me to this place. In any event, it enhanced my disappointment. The service was very friendly, and our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The fries were terrible, heard and tasteless with no texture at all. The fish was extremely hard and greasy. I would not recommend their batter ever. We had chowder, however, had the beginning and it was delicious. It reminded me of a place I visited before where the meal was so bad that I had no choice but to go back. So I think I will go back only because the reviews were so good.

Had an awesome time at the squid jigger. The food was amazing, fish and chips were the best I had in a long time. The only reason I took away a star on the service was we didn't get the onion rings we ordered for an appetizer, which was ok because we did receive some awesome nachos before the main meal. Portions were large and great. Would highly recommend trying out this gem in Bay Bulls. Even though it was Mother's Day and had to walk away from a couple of other restaurants because we didn't have reservations, we walked in and were able to sit our party of six. Great job, squid jigger. We will be back.

Fantastic service. Pizza wasn’t cooked in the middle but toppings were tasty. Brisket nachos were surprisingly delicious. Bar drinks were excellent.

Beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. Brisket nachos and brisket sub were really good and service was fantastic. They have a nice variety on the menu and decent selection for kids.

First meal on The Rock and it was amazing! I normally don’t eat French Fries but they were so delicious I finished my whole plate! Service was excellent, and prices were decent as well. We hope to visit once more before leaving. 10/10 would dine again!
