Best Restaurants Open for Newyears Eve this year in New Bern – 2024

Food was great! My husband got cold smoked blackened tuna, he loved it! I had the corned beef and cabbage special. It was pretty decent. The corned beef seemed a little bland, like maybe it's not brined as much as I am used too... but was of really nice quality, the potatoes that came with it were earthy and delicious. We also got the deep fried cheesecake. Its basically an elephant ear eggroll filled with cheesecake. Its fun and pretty tasty! The service was fast and the staff were nice. Its definitely more of a "hole in the wall" kinda vibe which we love. I'd definitely give them a go if your in the mood for something yummy.

My wife and I picked this place to eat for lunch simply because of the silly name. It turned out to be a nice restaurant with great food and great service. The Spunky burger was one of the best burgers I've had in a while.

So this is a hidden gem, and we found it by mistake. We wondered in after forgoing the NC Sea Food Festival. Oh my goodness, we had wings, seafood, and their famous stuffed seafood stuffed potato. AMAZING!! The owner is also the chef, and he has a secret sauce he tossed his wings in oh we tried to get him to tell us lol. The waitress, his sister, was wonderful funny attentive and you could tell they were all invested in making sure everyone had an enjoyable time. Three full meals, Appetizer which we ate before pictures lol drinks yes the have a full bar. Price definitely worth it and can't wait to go back.

New Bern is my mother’s home town, so we come up every year from Texas just to visit with family. Stumbled across this place and I’m glad we did! I was a bit skeptical because we showed up a little over an hour before closing, but all the food was fresh and the service was great! Our waitress was so helpful and personable, and the beautiful lady at the bar made awesome drinks! My daughters had boils with crab clusters and shrimp and my mother and I had the flounder and shrimp…. Everything was just so delicious! Will definitely add this to one of our spots when we come into town! Highly recommend

I went here with my family and we LOVED it! The food was piping hot and it came out in a timely manner. The owner even came and checked on us, which is appreciated. The food had nice hints of citrus. Definitely a repeat customer.

Finally got the opportunity to eat here. I have to say, it was worth the wait. The Calamari was off the charts! First time we have had it with Balsamic vinrgar, cherry tomatoes, banana peppers and it was AWESOME! Mahi Mahi was spot on. Grilled asparagus was and added bonus to a delicious meal. Great views. Friendly staff. I recommend this place. Great food at a reasonable price.

Delicious seafood and beautiful waterfront outdoor seating! Autumn was a great server! We highly recommend the fish and chips and seafood platter.

The whole staff was amazing but special SHOUT OUT to MOLLY !!! The food was amazing the way she went above and beyond for my mom making it even more special for her 50th <3 happy Mother’s Day everyone btw the seafood platter is bomb! Fresh food oh and get you a mango jalapeño margarita , saltwater sangria and pineapple coconut mojito drink I’m mad I didn’t take more pictures but everything hands down was amazing

We have been here a couple of times, and they never disappoint. The service is always great, food is delicious, and everybody is genuinely kind, helpful, and sweet. Our server, Sam, did a great job taking care of us yesterday. We left very happy and we will be back for sure. The smiley face on my burger was a super cute touch, something I would do at home. This shows that the chef loves what he/she is doing. We had the same bartender which shows the employees happy and they love what they are doing. Overall, great establishment.

This was by far the best food we have had in New Bern since we’ve been living here the last couple of years. We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The wait before we were seated was about 30 minutes, but absolutely worth it. Service was good. Restaurant is Veteran/armed forces themed based on the founder of the restaurant and his service. One of the TVs in the bar area was rotating cute animal videos (the others were on sports, of course). It was actually refreshing to be in a bar and have something cute or funny on one of the TVs. We were seated at a high top table in the bar area and the door to the restaurant kept blowing very cold wind in so we were freezing at our table which is really the only reason for 4 stars for atmosphere. I highly recommend Poppy’s for your downtown New Bern dining!

My gf and I stopped in for lunch, and they did not disappoint! They have a variety of beers on tap, and our food was delicious. We learned what bacon jam is, too!! Our server was friendly and very timely with our service. She was paying attention and knew what's up.

Absolutely delicious we enjoyed everything from the beautiful view to the last bite of the dessert!!!! We had wonderful service and great atmosphere!! Definitely worth trying if in the area. It is also locally owned so we love that because we try to go local as much as possible!!

This was our first time visiting, and everything was delicious. The star of the show was the fish and chips!!! I am still thinking about them. Service was great, and I recommended making reservations as this is a very popular restaurant.

Delicious food plus stunning views! We had the scallops and fish tacos. Both were very good. We loved their book-themed cocktails and the outdoor seating. You get to see the entire bay and they also have specialty seating if you just want to have drinks outdoors. Our waitress was phenomenal and the rest of the staff were very kind and friendly too. We can’t wait to go back!

Stopped in after shopping as so many had recommended it. We do, too, now. Their oysters Rockefeller are excellent as was our entrees. Clean, reasonable prices, attentive friendly staff.

Wow!! This place was AMAZING!!! They had the best seafood I have EVER had. 10/10 would recommend to everyone I know. Food cane out hot and fresh very fast! Best experience we could've asked for!

There’s street parking in front of the restaurant! The soft shell crab Bloody Mary was very eye catching and delicious! Even there’s a lot of fried sea food, but it also has a lot of other choices! I had clam chowder and seafood pot pie! Highly recommended the place, you will not regret it!

Highly recommend stopping by and giving Michael’s Pub a try! On a whim, we stopped in on dreary Friday for lunch and were super pleased with our experience. We got the nachos and club sandwich to split, which were both delicious and a decent portion size. We ended up needing a box to carry home leftovers. The club was probably one of the best ones we’ve had in a while! Our server, Daphne, was wonderful and told us about their live music/events, outdoor patio, and even shared their dog menu with us. We definitely plan to visit again with our pups for another great experience!

We stopped in for a quick app and a drink before walking around town and honestly, the place was OK. There weren’t many people as it was early in the afternoon so it was quite and the upstairs had a TV, but it was weirdly sitting out of place like we showed up late to a viewing party. The outside however looked awesome and would love to spend a chill evening there. Unfortunately it was HOT, so that wasn’t great. The margaritas were good, (no idea what the house tequila is, but it was decent) and the nachos topping were great but the chips seem like they came from a bag delivered by US Foods. I would encourage them to come up with something else for the nachos. Overall it was a pleasant, quiet visit and the server was great.

We never knew this place was here even though it's in the business district, it's right on the outskirts between the municipal buildings and the boat docks. It was tough to find a parking spot nearby, but I'm glad we got one about two blocks away. We needed the exercise after our meal here. It's a converted residence, so the inside is small, but out back are several patios and a large courtyard. Some of the tables have upholstered chairs, some canvas, some metal, and an overall eclectic but comfortable atmosphere, The next thing we noticed was that many of the tables had dogs quietly sitting under them. This is very pet friendly. Our server was Tonya, and she was nothing short of fantastic. She treated us like long lost friends. Oh yeah, might as well mention the food. It's geared to Jamaican style fare. My daughter got the jerk burger and it had to be about 6" high.(see one of the attached photos) No way a human can get their mouth around it! Two of us had pub burgers which were normal size, and I got jerk pork with sweet potato fries and slaw. It was all tasty and well seasoned. If you're not into authentic jerk style, it may be a bit much, but we loved every bite. We will be back!!!

We usually pop in for lunch or dinner when we’re in the area. They never disappoint. Excellent service and delicious food and the portions are a good size! You won’t be disappointed. Be sure to let them know if you’re going to the bakery next door and they’ll give you a discount coupon.

Absolutely phenomenal! This is the best bakery/patisserie I have been to in ages. The pastry was flaky and soft all at the same time. Savory sweet it truly has it all and it is all done extremely well. Also the fresh bread selection is delightful. 15/10 will be back again, worth the drive if you live out of town.

The pizza was great!!! Would recommend anyone to eat here. Also has a tasty bakery for all your sugary needs.

We had reservations there yesterday at 7. Overall, it was a great experience. The food and service were exceptional, and our waitress Madeleine took very good care of us. Highly recommend trying this restaurant.

I travel to Europe often, this is one of the BEST meals I had in the US for a very long time. First we had the pimiento cheese fries, even if you don’t like pimiento cheese, you like these! The Branzino was phenomenal, perfectly balanced flavors, delicate, cooked and deboned to perfection, crispy skin….. man! Not sure what else to say! The Duck pizza with everything beagle crust was fantastic! If you’re in New Bern NC, this place it’s a must! The cocktails are pretty great too.

Visited Cypress Hall for lunch on a day of adventure. Tried the Fried VA Oysters, Duck Pastrami Pizza, & Ricotta Gnudi. I had zeroed in on the Duck Pastrami from the moment I saw it on the menu and it did not disappoint. The waitress confirmed the restaurant cured the pastrami in-house so it was a no-brainer order and it did not disappoint. Of our two cocktails - Clockwork Orange and Aviation -- the Clockwork Orange was the better of the two.

Our meal today was excellent. Donna was so kind and helpful the whole time we were there. My smothered chicken plate with broccoli and fries was excellent, and my friends fried osyster and shrimp plate was fantastic too. It's definitely one of the best local places in New Bern.

We were able to be seated quickly, it’s Thanksgiving & they’re busy but they all r working together to make sure every customer is taking care of & the food is fabulous, the staff is friendly. They hold the door for you coming in & going out. Laura was our waitress & she was great, checked on us & made sure we were happy. Prices were great, country cooking.

Omg the best restaurant in New Bern. The food was delicious, service was awesome, and Kal was a great waiter. I can't stop talking about the pot roast. We will be back again and again.

I struggled with this review. For the price, something just seemed off. The food was good. Rather tasty, in fact. We all mostly enjoyed our meals. But, for example, my daughter wanted the chicken in her pasta dish on the side yet it still came out smothered in sauce. Why? They fixed it but it took a while. The fried oysters had a side of loaded fries. The fries were extra brown and the cheese was burnt... I didn't even want to take a picture of the dish. But the oysters were great. Our one adult beverage at the table was forgotten about for a while. At the end we actually wanted dessert (celebrating a birthday) but I was surprisingly given the check without even a mention. I had to say we wanted dessert. If these were $10 entrees I'd just roll with it. But these were much more than that.

Stopped in for breakfast this morning and had the tacos. They tasted pretty good, the home fries were awesome. The service was friendly and pretty quick. The price was kinda high for two tacos. The avocado was an upcharge.

Overall a great place ..quick service, and the owner comes by and ask you how was everything . I got a burger and it was delightful. Really good for a quick eat for lunch outside. I was glad they had outside seating cause it really nice day to eat outside. * small con. in the inside part their was a slight smell off wet rags . like water thats been dirty . IDK but it was a pleasent eat regardless

Rated A96.5 for sanitation We stopped in for beverages and apps. Prosecco on drink menu is Lamarca. The atmosphere is nice: A lot of TVs to watch sports. 52 beers on tap. ATM and games on-site. Sister business is next door Pirates Triple Play. Service is great. Bathrooms are clean. For those with balance or back issues, the toilet is VERY low to the ground so use caution. Bartender is great!

The food and drinks were awesome. They have a variety of beers on tap and yummy cocktails. The service was less than desirable. When we walked in, we weren't greeted by a hostess or anything, and there wasn't a sign saying, "Please seat yourself." I went to the bar to ask about seating and eye contact from all three bartenders was avoided, so it took 10 minutes to find out that we could sit anywhere and another 10 minutes before anyone noticed that we had sat down. I also think it might have been our server's first day. She didn't know anything about the food on the menu or the cocktails. At the same time, she didn't know liquor laws, so we could have all the drinks we wanted. At one point, my friend and I had 2 cocktails, 2 whiskey doubles, and one and half pints of beer in front of us, so we were set for the night.

This place has a live band most nights and the service was great. The beer flows good here but the food was confusing. The lunch they serve was delicious but the dinner was nothing to write home about. They do have security there which I believe is good but also makes you think. The photos are from lunch. I came thinking this was a coffee shop with a small bakery for a breakfast bite. I was way wrong. This is THE bustling breakfast joint in the heart of New Bern. Scrambled eggs were on point. Cheese and grits, delish. Home fries perfection. Chicken fried steak, light roast coffee, waffles loaded with fresh (not mushy/sugary) strawberries, and their signature butter syrup. Yum, yum, yum. Don't miss this when you're in town.

Traveling through North Carolina and decided to stop in New Bern for the night as we head up north. During our stay at an Airbnb our host told us about Bakers Kitchen Restaurant & Bakery. We walked over for breakfast and were surprised to see a very long line waiting outside to get seated for breakfast. Long lines usually mean good food. I ordered the Stack of Pancakes with the famous Butter Syrup. I thought the pancakes were fine, but the Butter Syrup was too sweet for me, plain maple syrup would have been a better option. My partner ordered a side of toast with a side of Home Fries. The home fries were fine and the toast was average toast but the butter tasted like margarine with a bitter taste. Not was we expected.

Yummy lunch! Was in town for a women in tech networking event and stopped in for lunch and browsed the nearby shops afterwards. The food was delicious! So good that we came back on our way home from the beach for a repeat of exactly our same meals and waited 45 mins for a table as it was really busy!

The food was great for fast-casual dining. The staff were nice, with the occasional overheard disgruntled employee. The place could use a deep cleaning. The portions were HUGE for the price. We'd try them again.

We decided to visit this establishment, and the experience was wonderfully pleasant. The food was delicious and fresh , the server was polite and attentive. In addition, her advice was very helpful. The atmosphere was peaceful and tranquil. We had the "Mahi-Mahi" with the "Spring Salad" and "House Veggies. "

Came here on a Sunday night and got seated right away. This place was definitely hopping. It seems to have a large local following. This was our first time here and the food was cooked to perfection. They had the best fried pickles I’ve had and the food was hot and fresh. The crab cakes were large and full of crab meat. The green beans were cooked and seasoned just right. My soup was hot and my husband sandwich was really delicious. Our waitress was very on top on our needs and the portions were huge. The restaurant seems to have been a round a long time and could use a little update with the carpeting.
